Michael Spears is a filmmaker, installation and performance artist whose work uses layered imageries of spiritual and occult traditions to create a space in which queer identity and embodiment can exist unproblematized. They use media as a magical, alchemical medium that allows physical space to be expanded and perforated. Their work engages with their own relationship to Christianity, attempting to merge Christian tradition with a broader spirituality to create a space that is not wholly one or the other, but a Holy third space where gender transgression and non-binary expression is possible.
